Just yesterday I drafted a letter from Paris to a doctor in the U.S. that is an appeal to help her find a diagnosis and treatment for an ailment that has plagued her for over 10 years. Though I live far away, I do all that I can to support her. It is incredible that we even need to talk about such a thing as elder abuse and neglect, yet it is a sad fact of life.

That is disturbing, since one would not expect countries famous for their family systems like India, Ghana or Brazil to feature in the disturbing statistics.

I agree that Mayors and Councillors can make a difference provided they are committed to social change and not making promises to capture the vote bank.

In the meantime, we the people can make a difference in our own way. One step in the right direction starts a journey.

Often they are left in asylums and institutions without the least resources to have at least dignity. I think that is a problem not only in India, but much of the world.
