At the end of the day,we can only take responsibility for ourselves. If the follow up results in good news, then that is great. If the news or reaction is negative, then well, at least one knows not to waste valuable energy going down a dead end street.

What makes my decision is that I am interested in hearing from the other person, and if I’m going to sleep well at night knowing I’ve done all I can, I choose to pick up my phone and dial.
