If you’re suffering from a stagnant career path … feel your career aspirations have turned into a paycheck to live job… if you feel others who are less qualified than you are getting ahead and that you might never achieve your career dreams … then this message is just for you.
Here’s why…
You need to take action to take back control of your career moving it in the direction that You want it to go before someone else does it for you.
And you need to realize, there is a cost to not dealing with this…
What most people do when facing a directionless or stagnant career is to complain about it to their peers. They lower their energy by blaming the boss and workplace. They start looking for another job that they feel would give them better prospects. Maybe even decide to open their own business where they are their own boss.
But for most people, none of that works.
And what happens if you just do nothing? If you just keep doing what you’ve been doing?
You end up with a dead-end career which pays the bills but leaves you frustrated and disillusioned. Worse, those feelings start affecting other areas of your life and relationships.
I’ve got an answer that works. Here’s the story:
When I started my first career after qualifying for my Chartered Accountant qualification, I knew what I wanted – to be counted among the best in my profession and travel the world.
Like many other young professionals who join the workforce, I had stars in my eyes. I believed the world to be my oyster.
That was until I faced my first redundancy following the downsizing of my employer’s firm following the Gulf War and recession.
A humbling experience but one that prepared me for the various challenges that any good professional encounters in the course of their otherwise successful career.
These challenges come in different forms and can result from changes within you and your requirements as you progress with your career.
Or even due to change in the dynamics of your workplace. Like a new boss who wants his own people or economic conditions like recession. These put a question mark on what seemed to be a secure job.
What I’ve found is that nothing stays constant. As I learned from the book Who Moved My Cheese, your cheese keeps moving.
You have to find new solutions to get new cheese.
That makes sense if you’ve heard of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and yes, your career needs change as you progress up the career ladder.
If you are feeling stagnated, it’s a sign that you need to move to a new destination point in your career journey.
But that’s not enough. In order to have a career path that you want, you need to know what you really want and work towards.
Don’t expect your employer to read your mind and give it to you on a silver platter.
You need to have a plan.
A strategic one with the right actions to move you quickly from Point A to Point B fulfilling YOUR Needs.
Your plan is not what is expected of you or what you think you should have based on other people’s career tracks.
And I’m giving it to you in this 4 week 1 on 1 coaching program.
