During the Aura session of one of my Creative Visualization Programs, we had a discussion on negative vibrations that some people emit which can bring down our vibration level and affect our ability to attract good abundance into our lives.
One participant spoke about a dear friend whose phone calls meant discussing issues that left the listener drained and low while the friend felt much better- a clear case of low and negative energy being transferred.
Avoiding the friend was not an option although the participant had started to limit the calls. The Group worked on solutions which were effective and today I am going to share one that had consensus and does not require a belief in Law of Attraction or Creative Visualization.
It is a simple way to find and exude happiness around you – The Power of Appreciation.
Focusing on the small things that make Life beautiful
In simple words, practice appreciating all that is good in your life and all that is going well. Appreciate your family, your friends, your job and anything that you know makes your life better because there are many that do not have what you do.
For example, when you receive your pay-slip and notice that there is a higher deduction for tax; appreciate the fact that you have the job and are earning an amount that has moved you to a higher tax bracket. It will put a spring in your step whether you believe that it will attract more money and more tax!
Now think about making your environment more conducive to happiness. When was the last time you said something nice to a family member, a friend or a colleague and really meant it? If you cannot remember, then it is time to do some sincere, genuine appreciation. If you cannot think of anything to say; how about a Thank You? It works too, you know.
The other person feels appreciated and may reciprocate with appreciation or may not. So what? You will feel good for doing well without expecting anything back in return.
If the thought of vocalizing appreciation makes you uncomfortable, then use the Gratitude List to assist in reframing your thoughts.
Some of us, including myself do it last thing at night while reviewing the day. It is interesting how an otherwise bad day could have had something good in it. Positivity reigns supreme and a good night’s rest is assured.
Alternatively, start your day by thinking of 3 things that you are grateful for or which you appreciate.
How about appreciating the fact that you will be driving to work in your car rather than using public transport or appreciating that you got up early enough to read the newspaper or sip the morning tea in peace?
Starting your day with appreciation shifts your mindset into positivity and abundance mode which means you are a happier person and attract more happiness through the course of the day.
Besides, whatever may happen during the day, you can handle it since you got off to a good start.
Better still; take the late Wayne Dyer’s advice:
“Give yourself a gift of five minutes of contemplation in awe of everything you see around you. Go outside and turn your attention to the many miracles around you. This five-minute-a-day regimen of appreciation and gratitude will help you to focus your life in awe.”
Try it for size and remember to come back to this post and share your experience!

When we have so much appreciation, it automatically becomes our way of being.
Grateful to read this as I sit here this morning sipping me tea.
Thank you Heather. Have a blessed day.
There are so many blessings in life if we take the time to appreciate them.
Absolutely Heather. It’s a pity we have to remind ourselves to take time out to appreciate God’s gifts and the good in our lives.
I start my day by writing 5 things I am grateful for each day in my journal. At night, I say a prayer of gratitude for everything and everyone in my life. We spend so much time on what is missing from our lives that we forget all that we already have!
So true, Barb. I follow a similar gratitude ritual and it makes a world of difference to me.
Thanks for the reminder to focus on the small things to be grateful for, especially in close relationships. That simple practice will bring mes back into feeling like my relationships are a blessing rather than a burden.
My pleasure Maribeth. It’s forgetting the value in our close relationships and considering them as burdens that creates the guilt when our loved ones pass away because that is when we actually remember their true worth to us. I make it a point of telling family and friends how much I love and appreciate them all the time. 🙂
I’ve had a gratitude practice — sometimes contemplating, sometimes noticing, sometimes listing — for many years. I always appreciate a good post on the topic. Thank you!
My pleasure, Andrea. I find gratitude makes life better.
Thank you much for sharing. Appreciation is a powerful that opens us to abundance.
Exactly, Leila! And abundance has so many facets and forms.
Great article Vatsala! There is always a room for praise. If you appreciate basketball, then probably volleyball or someone healthy with good physique or enthusiasm or competition hold your attention fast.Good things have good friends.
And we should even be grateful when we travel by public transport because there is always a chance we meet someone interestin and invest our resources more judicially
Thank you Rahul. Welcome to my blog! There is indeed always room for praise. When appreciation has a sincere and heartfelt base, it raises our vibrations as well as those of the recipient of the appreciation/praise which fuels us to aspire to become better and eventually we achieve more. Appreciation for the little things in life first thing in the morning helps to start the day on a positive note as does gratitude which keeps us focused on the good in our life rather than the bad. What we think of multiplies and as you pointed out, we might meet interesting like-minded people, even on the public transport. Happy New Year!
I totally agree and do feel practicing will help us inculcate the habit of having a positive approach towards any aspect in life thank you so much
Thank you for visiting my blog, Meenakshy! Appreciation is a habit, and a good one for inculcating a positive mindset which in itself raises one’s stress resilience.
So smart, Vatsala! In coaching we call this ‘reframing’ and, as this is International Coaching Week, I’m so glad you highlighted this simple yet powerful tool. And, a great one from a woman who always finds the positive way to view circumstance!
Thank you for the compliment, Andrea. Just following in your footsteps. I appreciate you!
Letting others know you appreciate them is so important and really doesn’t take much effort, does it Vatsala?
As you mentioned, writing a gratitude list or thinking about what you’re grateful for each day can help shift your energy. For a while, I kept thinking I had to be grateful for something different every day & I’d get frustrated. Then, I decided that if “having a roof over my head” or “a warm bed to sleep in” was what came up each day, so be it. I’m grateful.
Thanks. ~Debra
On the dot,Debra! Appreciation is the easiest thing to do, as long as it is genuine and sincere. I do it a lot at my Post Office and other places and the results are amazing – even if the place is busy, someone comes to help me and better yet, they actually ask in return if all is well with me and my family. Being grateful for what one has already also works as it clears space for building on what one has. Interestingly, every time there is a petrol hike, I think I should be grateful I have a car to drive!
