We are all sailing in the same boat, Andrea. :) Self-care seems to become important only when we experience pain or discomfort. Not a pleasant wake-up call I may add. Thank you for your kind comment. I appreciate you!

There are so many things we can do to enhance health and prevent illness or injury... I don't know about everyone else, but sometimes I just forget. Would much rather be reminded via one of your posts than by having some sort of pain to relieve. Thanks!

Would you believe me if I told you that I keep a spare Smiley in the house, Delia? :) Having suffered from carpal tunnel syndrome myself, I know how painful it can be. One other tip that I can share and which works is to sleep with the affected hand on your pillow so that it is higher than the rest of the arm. It provides relief, at least it does in my case. Hope the other suggestions prove useful for you too!

Smiley balls can be so effective, Vatsala! I used to have one and used it during my 30 min outside walk, daily. It was absolutely incredible how much it helped with my carpal syndrome! Thanks for reminding me to get a new one as that old one got broken. And now I'm off to check your other suggestions!

Thank you Beverley! Always happy to meet a fellow Smiley fan! There are so many alternative health processes that one can use if one is aware of them. I remember when I had broken my leg and was undergoing physiotherapy in Minsk in 1993, the physiotherapist used very basic items to get my leg muscles working including a football and disc! I was up and about without crutches in less than 2 weeks. I love finding alternative solutions for big problems under medical supervision.

In reply to <a href="https://karmicallycoaching.com/3-practical-applications-of-the-awesome-smiley-stress-ball/#comment-915">Tammi</a>.

Thank you Tammi. I've been using Smiley as part of my exercise regimen to prevent carpal tunnel syndrome and have not had an attack since 2009. I found out about the use of stress balls for lowering blood pressure while doing some research for my mother. While there are caveats in all the reports that I saw about more research being required, I think it would work for normal cases as part of a stress management regime because stress does affect our blood pressure. Thanks for visiting my blog!

Sounds like the perfect time to let Smiley work it magic for you, Roslyn, especially since you also use your hands for work. It will relax your fingers and wrist as well.

Great memories you've shared in this piece, of how something simple like a smiley stress ball, can so easily be a solution to the often daily stresses of our modern world. I have used one in the past and I know how relaxing the gentle squeezing of the ball can be. It's great to hear that it can lower blood pressure too, which is so rampant in many of our "highly" stressed population. Having long been a fan of isometric exercises I think this is a very positive and inexpensive way to stop, squeeze and relax yourself. Thanks for the reminder!

Great information. I didn't know the stress ball can help with high blood pressure. It makes sense though that doing simple exercises help relieve the stress and therefore lowers the blood pressure. I am interested in the hand exercises for the carpal tunnel. I am definitely sharing this information.

Love this reminder. How often I fool myself into thinking I have no stress. Hah. I do have a great ability to 'let go', 'get off it' & not ruminate but then I still feel the tension in my shoulders & back. I take some time every evening to relax in front of the tv. Perfect time to get & use a smiley.
