Thank you for validating my suggestions from an authority perspective, Cheryl. The 2 biggest questions I am asked on Quora relate to resumes and job interviews and I often point them to specific blog posts, mine and curated including this one for guidance and an offer to do a consultation. Sadly in all these years, only 1 person actually made the effort to visit my blog and then thanked me for the tips and used them. A lot of job seekers could actually get that coveted job interview invite if they applied the recommendations that HR and career specialists offer.

Excellent suggestions for those people job hunting! I've worked in human resources and know what it is like to read resumes for the right candidate. Today, paper resumes just aren't the norm anymore, but online is! Emailing the RIGHT department, head of _____, or asking for the referral is paramount this day and age! One MUST do there research, most likely on LinkedIn or personal connections, to find the employers that might be LOOKING for your talents/skills. Talk to everyone! But even just talking doesn't give anyone time to remember that "so-and-so has this work but maybe he is looking, call them" thought. No matter, it just has to be "work" to get it done. Without it, employers will see that, and won't consider you. Like you said, a "pretty" resume isn't reason to hire you! Great stuff and it really brings me to another passion of mine. Alas, few take MY suggestions seriously either and sit unemployed. :-(
